Geneva is Switzerland's most cosmopolitan city. This diversity is driven in part by the large number of multinationals that have their regional HQs in the city and because Geneva plays host to the United Nations' largest office outside of New York. This provides for a diverse set of jobs in financial services and industry as well as in international organizations, consulates, non-governmental organizations. Arriving
|
Most business travellers arrive at Geneva International Airport. The airport offers regular direct flights to more than 100 cities.
A taxi ride from the airport to the city center will take approximately 20 minutes and costs approximately 20 CHF. Cab drivers will charge per piece of luggage. While they do not expect a tip from locals, some taxi drivers frequently areas visited by visitors may be accustomed to tips. The airport rail station is 300 meters from the arrival/departure terminal and it provides frequent rail connections (8 minute train ride) to the downtown Geneva train station (Cornavin). Getting around
|
Getting around in Geneva is easy and few business visitors rent cars. Geneva has an efficient transportation system consisting of buses, trams, taxis and trains. Compared to New York and London, the taxis are expensive. Depending on your location, it might be worth calling ahead to ensure that a taxi is available when you need it. Public transportation is based on the 'honor system' where you purchase time stamped tickets that are valid for certain zones and times. While the inspections are infrequent, the pentalties are steep. Depending on the number of trips, it may be worth purchasing a full-day ticket. Read more
